WEBN'S SPOTLIGHT BAND OF THE WEEK:

Sleep Comes After Death is a Cinci melodic metalcore band heavy on the progressive sound.  They formed in 2015 with Christian on growling vocals, Katey on the melodic melodies along with John Paul, Rob, Steven & Sean.  The band is influenced by August Burns Red, Miss May I, Opeth, a handful of progressive rock & metalcore as well as classical music.  They love to play w/ weird scales and seeing what comes out of them.  TOMORROW the band drops their 5 song EP “What You Let Define You” AND IS  hosting a special all ages EP release party at Thompson House with Death of a Poet, Today’s Last Tragedy & several other local rockers.

SCAD is releasing a new EP this weekend, is this your first go round in the studio?

Yes, this was our first time in the studio. It was quite the learning process, but our producer Michael Waters was amazing and made the experience flow so smoothly. He really helped us bring our music to life and take it even further than what we could have imagined.

What was your studio experience like?

It was really fun, and a tad aggravating at times, but only because we held ourselves to such high standards for this EP. In the end though, It was mind blowing to hear our music cultivate into what it is today. We all tried to push our limits and see how far we could push our talents and we all learned so much about ourselves in the process.

I saw a post on your Facebook Page from another radio station asking you for music less aggressive.  What was your response to that?  Did that bother you?

It was somewhat shocking at first, but shortly afterwards we found it to be hilarious. We like to take things in stride and that's exactly what we did with this situation. We're not bothered at it by all, in fact it's somewhat flattering!

So far on this road to rock, what is that one moment that stands out above all else?

At our last show (Avanti's EP release show at Madison Live) we got to sign an autograph for a sweet little girl who really enjoyed our show. It was all our first autograph and it was mind blowing to start seeing our music truly affect someone else.

What’s the plan no for SCAD for the spring / summer and beyond?

We've been planning on reaching outside of the Cincinnati scene, playing shows around Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. We also plan on sending our EP to some record labels and even trying to earn a local spot on Van's Warped Tour. Along with all this focus on performing and promoting, we will be writing our next album in our spare time which is already showing many diverse, innovative sounds from what we have written so far. We're trying to go as far as we can once we release our EP, but we're having so much fun already that we know that we'll be happy with whatever comes our way!

For all of you out there, if any of you can make it to the EP release show this Saturday at the Thompson House in Newport, it would mean the world to us. If you can't make it out that day, just like and follow us on social media and check us out on Youtube and other internet media players. We would also like to give special thanks to Michael Waters for being an amazing producer, Key Carroll at the Thompson House for promoting our upcoming show, and all the bands that are playing with us that day. Again, we are Sleep Comes After Death. Thank you all for your time.
