“Potato Cartel” Accused Of Trying To Inflate Frozen French Fry Price

A “potato cartel” is being accused of colluding to keep the price of frozen French Fries inflated…and it will not stand.

Two class action suits have been proposed in U.S. District Court alleging that four companies “currently dominating a multi-billion dollar market in the United States” have been “sharing detailed, sensitive information with each other…to raise the price of their goods and make more money off of customers.”

In the proposed suits, it’s alleged that “McCain Foods, Cavendish Farms, Lamb Weston, and J.R. Simplot have privately swapped intel to inflate the price of potato goods like fries, hash browns, and tater tots over the last several years.”

McCain Foods has denied the allegations and vows to “vigorously defend” themselves.

So far, neither of the lawsuits have been certified as class actions, and no allegations have been proven in court.
