Apple is set to release a pair of smart glasses by the end of 2026, similar to Meta Ray-Bans and Google's Android XR glasses. The glasses will feature cameras, microphones, and AI capabilities, enabling functions like photo-taking, video recording, translations, music playback, and more, with Siri integration. Apple plans to produce prototypes by the end of this year for testing before mass production and public launch, with a focus on improving the personal assistant experience. These smart glasses will serve as a precursor to Apple's long-term goal of lightweight augmented reality glasses, with true AR glasses still in development due to component challenges.
I've had Meta Ray-Ban glasses for more than a year and have really enjoyed them. Picture and video quality are excellent. The biggest negative I find with them is the battery easily over heating while using the glasses even when it's not really that hot out. On numerous occasions I was doing a Facebook live video with my Meta Ray Ban glasses when a message kept repeating that my glasses were too hot and would shutdown. While the viewers couldn't hear the message being repeated over and over it was still really annoying and eventually the glasses shut down ending my broadcast if I didn't already switch it back to my phone. The other negative involves the battery once again and its not so great battery life.
