And our SPOTLIGHT ARTIST OF THE WEEK:

Emerging  Cincinnati indie rock quartet Bucko—formed from the ashes of the beloved local acts Black Owls and Killtones—consists of vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Brandon Losacker, guitarist/vocalist Ed Shuttleworth, bassist Josh Pilot and drummer Brian Kitzmiller. The band is currently writing and recording their follow up, to their debut album, due to be released later this year, which will highlight their eclectic hybrid alternative rock.

1.) How did Bucko come together and decide to use a variety of genres with your band?

We all met on Tinder! Nah...First of all thanks for featuring us! It's people like you, that help people like us get heard! Bucko formed shortly after our respective rock outifts, Black Owls (Brandon, Brian, & Ed) and Killtones (Josh) came to an end. We were all friends and we were just messing around in our studio and thinking of doing another straight up rock thing, and I had some songs that are just like you mentioned (variety of genres) and played some of them for some for the guys and it ended up working. What I listen to is all over the place from Deicide to Depeche Mode and it just happened to take this shape for this particular set of songs.

2. You've play a variety of venues around Cinci, what is one of your favorite venue and why?

Really, there are so many cool spots in Cincinnati. Northside does has some great places for original music, and MOTR in OTR is fantastic to not only play, but also check out original music every night (and it's always free), but Southgate House is definitely right up there too. 3 great rooms to play, awesome people and a real class act all the way around. Really dig that place.

3.) Bucko grabbed the opening slot for Rob Zombie's guitarist John 5 at Southgate House.  What do you expect from the crowd that evening?I expect they will be wanting to see John 5. Rightfully so, he's the sh*t. I hope we gain a few fans as well. We're all quite different, but I think that's what makes it cool. Maybe some folks will as well. Last time he was there it was a blast and he puts on a helluva show. The dude kills it. We're just happy to part of it. It's truly and honor to be part of this show in particular.

4.) What advice do you have for other Cinci Rockers for grabbing opening slots for national artists?

Try not to suck. I'm kidding, but not really. I don't have any great advice in regards to that. I don't think there is any magic formula. Keep writing music and playing out and make friends. Connecting with other bands is always a good thing. There are a ton in the area. We also try to promote as much as we can being a small local act. We don't take it for granted when new people and other musicians come to our shows, it's very humbling and hopefully that comes through if we get the chance to hang out after a show.

5.) Bands have to sell a ton of local tickets to get booked on various shows, what is one great tool you use to help move tickets?

FREE COBRAS. We give out free cobras at every show. Like it or not, but most of the promo comes from some form of social media and hooking up with awesome folks such as yourself!. We mainly use facebook (ugh) and create events and attempt to stay relevant for the kidz. We also typically create some form of video for our songs. YouTube, iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, and our own website drive traffic to our shows or one of our digital outlets. So far we've had a great first quarter, sales are up and there is free cake at Linda's cube on Thursday

.6.) Any plans to record music in the upcoming months?

Without a doubt. We are actually in the process (right now) of recording an EP at The Lodge (http://www.thelodgeky.com/recording/) in Kentucky and that should be released as soon as it's mixed/mastered. We recorded and released everything before DIY, and we wanted to turn all of that over to someone else this time around. A full length is planned for late Summer / early Fall. The new stuff is quite a departure from the debut and is louder, heavier, and much more straight forward rock, but still sounds like us.

We're playing more regionally than locally so far this year, so keep an eye out. And we will have a BIG announcement in September for a local show, so keep your ear open for that. Also, we have our music on most of the pay digital outlets like iTunes, etc but we are giving away our album for FREE TO WEBN LUNATICS at bandcamp! It's a free download, if you're into that sort of thing.
