Summer is almost here officially, and you may have vacation plans coming up. With everything so expensive at the moment, you're trying to save money any way you can, but still go on your trip.
Bags are a big charge now, and if you don't have their credit card/rewards program it could cost you up to $50 a person for a checked bag. (get the card and let your money pay for your vacations by the way!!)
So how can you save money at the airport on your bag fees for your next trip? Here are some tips:
- Roll clothes, don’t fold - The idea here is to tightly compress clothes so you can fit more in your carry-on. Tthe only exception is large items like denim or sweaters.
- For jackets or blazers - Flip jackets and blazers inside out, folds them and lays them flat across the top after everything else is packed, putting a dry clean bag or thin garment bag in between.
- Stuff shoes with socks, cables and more - To make the most of empty space, putting things like socks, charging cables, pill bottles and other small items inside shoes. More space for that swimsuit.
- Downsize products into smaller bottles and containers - Don’t waste space on full-size bottles and tubes, opt for travel-size toiletries when you can and make sure to stick all of them in a plastic, see-through bag in case of spills and to make sure your bag easily gets through security screening. So it's not only saving you a few bucks, it's also saving your time.
- Use the “Sudoku method” for capsule-wardrobe packing - To cut down on what you’re packing, lay out your favorite neutral clothing items in a three-by-three grid, with three tops, three bottoms, and three layering pieces that can be mixed and matched in different combinations. Make sure the outfit you wear on the plane goes with the others to maximize your outfits even further.⠀
