So you think you hold the school record for keeping a library book? Maybe your city library had (because you still have it) a book you fell in love with. Did you just keep it and risk their fine?
Someone may have you beat. A San Diego County Library worker discovered a book that was 46 years overdue when she opened an anonymous package in early January. So what book was it?
“The Incredible Journey” by Sheila Burnford, which was due back May 20, 1980.
The sender also left a note “Sorry this is so late” with a hand-drawn smiley face. But they did their homework and knew where to send it because the library had a new address....but at least they got it back..I guess.
The book I kept for the longest and I think I paid $16 in fines for was the Shel Silverstein book "Where The Sidewalk Ends", but it was totally worth it. Still love that book today.
