The Port Authority of New York/New Jersey has donated the interior gate sign for Gate A17, the departure gate used by United Airlines Flight 93 on September 11, 2001 at Newark Liberty International Airport. The aircraft, flying from Newark to San Francisco, was the fourth airliner to be hijacked during the September 11 attacks, and the only one to not reach its intended target.
The aircraft crashed in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, and the site is now home to the Flight 93 National Memorial. Following an official transfer from the Port Authority to the National Park Service, the sign is now on display at the Flight 93 National Memorial, alongside other artifacts to serve as a tribute to the lives lost and the heroism on display by United Airlines Flight 93's passengers during the worst terror attack of all time.
