Robert Plant, Black Sabbath, Oasis Appear In New 'Rockfield' Documentary

A multi-generational group of iconic rock acts appear in a forthcoming documentary about Wales' legendary Rockfield recording studio.

Directed by Hannah Berryman, Rockfield: The Studio on the Farm chronicles the pastoral studio's luminous history with archival footage of artists at work, including Queen, Simple Minds, The Stone Roses, Manic Street Preachers and many more since 1963.

The film will be available to stream here beginning on May 13.

Built on their family farm in the Welsch countryside by brothers Kingsley and Charles Ward in the 1960s, Rockfield was so significant because it was the world' first residential recording studio.

"Animals were kicked out of barns and musicians were moved into Nan's spare bedroom," reads a release for the film.

The story is told through rare footage and interviews with the Rockfield co-founders and artists who've worked there, including Robert Plant, Ozzy Osbourne, Liam Gallagher, Jim Kerr and many others.

Artists liked working at Rockfield because its remote location allowed them to block out distractions to focus on their creative vision. Queen famously crafted "Bohemian Rhapsody" at Rockfield, while Plant retreated to Rockfield in after Led Zeppelin's breakup to create his solo debut, Pictures at Eleven.
