Kris Jenner On Kim Kardashian Getting Robbed, When Kanye Got Covid & More

On this episode of Pretty Messed Up, AJ McLean, Cheryl Burke, and Rene Elizondo welcome businesswoman and “momager” Kris Jenner to the show to talk about the final season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, how filming in a pandemic is going, what changed for them after Kim Kardashian was robbed in Paris, their family’s Covid scares, and so much more. They also get into Jeannie Mai abruptly leaving Dancing With the Stars due to a health concern, whether or not Cheryl really is retiring from the show soon (and whether or not she’d become a judge instead), and offer some advice to a fan named Samantha, who writes in to ask how to deal with a loved one who is actively drinking and not willing to stop.

Kris says they started shooting season 20 of the show themselves; the studio sent over equipment in sterilized packages that they trained them how to use, and they shot some of the episodes without any crew at all. Then their small crew started to trickle back and “it’s pretty much back to normal,” Kris says. But it was difficult at first; Khloe Kardashian and Kanye West both got sick with Covid-19 pretty badly, so the whole family had to quarantine away from each other. “And we move as a pack...it’s our own little tribe,” she says. “The most devastating thing, as a mom, is that your instinct is to go over there and take care of her, and I couldn’t.” Fortunately, they both recovered, and “now we look back and feel so blessed and lucky to be alive, to have each other...you just start thinking about all the things that you’re so grateful for.”

A fan named Samantha asks them for advice on dealing with her husband: He’s drinking too much, but when she tries to talk to him about it, it just causes fights. Rene is so glad to get this question because “there are so many people who are watching someone drink their life away and they have no idea what to do.” AJ and Cheryl both advise Samantha not to judge her husband, but create a safe space for him to be vulnerable about why he’s drinking; AJ’s wife also does a version of Alcoholics Anonymous specifically for the loved ones of addicts. Rene adds, “I think it’s important for people to understand that by the time you’re a full-blown alcoholic, it’s not a ‘want a drink’ thing anymore. It’s a ‘need a drink’ thing.” Telling an alcoholic to stop drinking is like “being 200 feet underwater and someone pulls the oxygen mask off...they’re going to fight you.” Hear more from all of them about their sobriety journeys, and about Kris’s first job as a flight attendant, whether or not she’ll ever compete on Dancing With the Stars, and how she balances the mom with the manager, on this episode of Pretty Messed Up.
