Researchers in Germany have developed tiny robots—smaller than a grain of sand—that can be injected into the nose to clear sinus infections. These “microswimmers” are magnetically controlled and covered in slippery coatings to navigate mucus. Once inside, they can break up bacterial biofilms, which are often resistant to antibiotics. In lab tests, they successfully removed these stubborn infections. Human trials are still years away, but scientists say this could be a game-changer for people who suffer from chronic sinus issues.
