CINCINNATI -- Xavier University Athletics unveiled today a new design for the playing floor in Cintas Center, the home for Xavier men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball teams.
Inspiration for the new design was pulled from elements of designs submitted by fans during May. “We would like to thank our fans for their contributions to this process. We invited fans to be part of the process and were thrilled with the response. The results were several great and imaginative ideas,” said Brian Hicks, Xavier Associate Athletic Director for External Relations.
The Musketeers’ new court design features the primary “X” identity at center court with the “Xavier” trademark along both baselines. The playing floor includes two-shades of wood stain, a lighter color inside the end and side lines and the outside perimeter of the floor a darker shade. All markings including the BIG EAST and Cintas Corporation logos will be in Xavier’s traditional navy color.
The most recognizable feature of the new court will be the skyline of the city of Cincinnati. The skyline is a nod to Xavier’s rich history and heritage as part of the fabric of our community. “We are part of the BIG EAST Conference with a collection of ten urban institutions,” said Hicks. “We feel the Cincinnati skyline dramatically highlights both the history and future of Xavier as a major part of this major metropolitan area we call home.” The silhouette will be located on the side of the floor opposite of the team benches and will provide the city with exposure during each of this season’s 16 home men’s basketball games that will be televised nationally on FOX networks.
The playing floor will be refinished by Cincinnati-based Cincinnati Floor Company. Work began on July 23rd and be completed in August by the beginning of the fall competition season for volleyball.
